Adventures Group Day

May 7, 2012 was our group day in the Adventures area with Mr. Eric Valentine and Miss Holly. The boys had a great time climbing and riding the zip-line. Many of them conquered some of their fear today and had a fun time!

Fishing Activity!

On Friday May 4, 2012 some students went fishing as an earned reward activity! It was a beautiful day and they had lots of fun!

Incredible Creatures

On Friday April 20, 2012, we had the awesome privilege of having Steve Gatz visit our school! Steve is a avid outdoors man who LOVES learning and sharing about creation and creatures. The students were spellbound as he described the fun that he has out in nature.

Steve talks to the students

We saw all kinds of creatures! Bearded dragon, barking frog, bull frog, and snakes!

Jalen triumphed over his fear of snakes!

Nahmir and Jamar hold a snake

Manuel holds a tiny frog

Captivated audience!

Thanks, Mr. Steve! We always enjoy when you come share with us!

Cedar Ridge School “Therapy” Dog

Mrs. Lushbaugh's students read to Bella

Cedar Ridge School has a canine friend that visits us regularly on a weekly basis.  Her name is Bella, and she’s a two year old, Australian Shepherd, owned by Miss Paula Hayes.  Bella has graduated from several obedience classes.  Staff and students view her as an asset to our program.  Bella has been utilized in individual therapy sessions and in group counseling.  She’s a high-energy dog, and students have enjoyed having free time with her, both indoors and outside throughout this school year.  Chasing and catching Frizbees are just a few of her strengths.  Here are some comments students have to say about Bella.  “Bella is the best dog I have ever seen,” said Chucky.  Elishah said, “Bella is a playful dog.”  Manuel commented that “She runs fast for a Frizbee.”  And Darien simply said, “I love her.”

The Lorax Outing!

On Thursday, March 8th, Mrs. Lushbaugh’s class went to see the movie, The Lorax, on the big screen. The Lorax is a children’s book written by Dr. Seuss. It was first published in 1971. Students in Mrs. Lushbaugh’s class had a unit on pollution and the negative effects it has on our land, air and water. This story fit right in with the information students were learning in science class. In reading class, students story webbed events after reading the book. They also used the book and movie as an opportunity to compare and contrast events. A big thank you to the Star Theater in Berkeley Springs for the complementary movie tickets!

Renaissance Rap

A rap that was written in World History by Izzy, David, and Donnell:

Times are hard people are scared

A lot of these kids wondering why they ain’t gettin’ fed

Cause they mommy and daddy is sick in da bed

Sick in da bed, sick in da bed.

Times are hard people are scared

A lot of these kids wondering why they ain’t gettin’ fed

Cause they mommy and daddy is sick in da bed

Sick in da bed, sick in da bed.

When the black death attacked

People left and they packed

Fewer people paid tax

And they never came back

A lot of people died

Only a few stayed alive, tryin’ to survive

The time of the renaissance, that’s a fact

Dark ages where the skies are faded

A lot of people needed to be educated

Times are rough, hard enough

With populations, a lot of people got very frustrated.

A Poem About Cedar Ridge…

Cedar Ridge Ministries

Cedar Ridge is a peaceful place

As we are the children of God’s heavenly grace.

From the mountains that climb to the cornfields below,

There’s a lot about Cedar Ridge that you’ll need to know.

The first on the list is the lovely sights,

From the sunny days to the bright, moonlit nights.

The second thing is the Adventures you take,

From the challenges here to decisions you make,

From the rope climbing obstacles to the big rope gate,

and most of all, the leap of Faith.

A school is provided for the Education you need,

So if you need help, please ask, feel free.

The third thing you’ll need to know about here,

Is that we are helpful, and caring; so no need to have any fear!

CRM, have a blessed day!!
